Hope's Home

President's Message

I am honoured to serve as the President of the Board of Directors for Hope’s Home and build on the foundation established by the agency’s previous president, Melanie Kohlruss, and the founding board of directors. The commitment of Hope’s Home to medically fragile children and their parents continues. When Hope’s Home was first envisioned it took a small group of dedicated people to make the dream become a reality. Now the agency is delivering day care and respite services to a number of children and families in Regina and the surrounding area. Our accountability to the people we serve, to the people we employ and to our funders and other supporters is significant.

As the governing body for Hope’s Home, the Board of Directors takes overall responsibility for the non-profit corporation’s affairs by:

  • Establishing and accounting for the mission and values of the agency;
  • Establishing bylaws and policies about how the agency will be governed;
  • Approving an annual budget and securing the financial resources necessary to achieve the annual operating goals; and
  • Electing and appointing offices who will assure high quality board leadership.

The Board of Directors, in cooperation with the Executive Director, have designed board structures and processes, developed and directed strategic priorities, as well as delegated authority and responsibility to the Executive Director in addition to monitoring performance and measuring results. In assuming these responsibilities, the Board of Directors has given the Executive Director and her team of employees the responsibility to deliver services and make day to day operational decisions.

Our commitment for the foreseeable future is to place the day care and respite program on a solid foundation with sound policies, procedures, standards, and financing. We want to ensure the people we serve receive quality services and our employees/volunteers receive the necessary support to deliver these services. We will continue working with The Ministries of Education, Health and Social Services, The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region, the City of Regina and other supporting agencies to account for funding received and to determine how services can be enhanced to respond to need. To the extent we can, we will also share our service experience with other parent groups and agencies in the province to help facilitate program development in their areas.

Sincerely,

John Labatt, President
