Hope’s Home is named in memory of Hope Dawn Marie, a beautiful baby girl who lived her short life of 10 months in the hospital. Born with spina bifida, Hope lived with the support of medical technology. She had a tube in her airway
to help her breathe, was on a night time ventilator, plus had a tube in her stomach for feeding. In spite of her numerous medical issues, she was an inspiration to everyone who came in contact with her.
Hope had the amazing
ability to win hearts with her incredible smile. The twinkle in her eye brought a ray of sunshine into a hospital unit that could so often be filled with so much grief and sadness. Her life was observed with great admiration, and
each new day with her seemed to be another gift from God. From her birth, to neonatal, then onto the paediatric intensive care unit, she unknowingly touched and changed the lives of many people. With their first introduction, Hope
stole the hearts of the Tisher family. They became her foster family and prepared to take Hope home.
Advocating for support in the community, the Tisher family faced many challenges as they tried to find the necessary help
they needed to safely care for such a medically fragile little girl at home. Because of the difficult processes involved in
obtaining the necessary support needed at home, they were never able to fully bring Hope home permanently.
Instead, she was held with heavy hearts as she passed away and went to her heavenly home on February 3, 2004.
Because of Hope, the Tisher's experienced firsthand the gaps in care and support in the community that are essential
for families taking medically fragile children home.
Hope is truly the inspiration for Hope's Home.
